Cameron Fearn rushed for 112 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries and the Martin Luther King Jr. Lions scored a pair of defensive touchdowns on the way to a 48-7 Region 6-4A high school football game on Saturday night at Godfrey Stadium.

Martin Luther King Jr. (1-2, 1-0) built a 27-0 halftime lead as four different Lions scored in the first half.

Quarterback Antravious Slatter put the Lions on the board with 6:36 left in the first quarter as he kept the ball for a 12-yard touchdown run. He kicked the PAT to make it 7-0. The touchdown play was set up by a 35-yard run by Javorius Sims as the Lions took just two plays to score from the Stone Mountain 47.

Four minutes later it was Sims turn as he broke free at the line and went 23 yards to the touchdown. The PAT was not good, and the Lions held a 13-0 advantage with 2:09 left in the first quarter.

Tyriq Dix made the first big defensive play of the game snagging a Pirate pass at the 27 and returning it for the pick-six. The try for a two-point conversion was no good and score was 19-0 with 7:54 left in the first half.

Fearn picked up his first touchdown of the night slipping through the line, cutting to the right, and racing 36 yards for the score with 3:23 remaining in the first half. He tacked on the two-point conversion for a 27-0 halftime advantage.

King’s Ethan Patterson abruptly ended the Pirates opening drive of the second half turning an interception behind the line of scrimmage into his own pick-six. Fearn again tacked on the two-point conversion with a run to push the lead to 35-0 with 11:45 left in the third quarter.

The Lions forced the Pirates to punt on the next possession and Adon Flukers Jr. gathered in the punt at his own 46 returning it 52 yards to the Stone Mountain two-yard line. Quendell Johnson ran the ball in from the two with 9:05 remaining in the third quarter. Slatter added the PAT to make it 42-0.

 

Stone Mountain got on the scoreboard at the 6:10 mark of the third quarter when Jaheim Mills eluded the Lions’ pass rush and tossed a short pass to Shaheim Bailey. Bailey weaved his way through defenders for 24 yards for the touchdown. Josue Ndeko added the PAT to make it a 42-7 deficit.

Fearn rounded out the scoring for the night with a three-yard run with 11:46 to play. The PAT was no good for the final of 48-7.

The Lions defense held Stone Mountain to just 119 yards of total offense. King’s offense led by Fearn’s 112 yards on the ground finished with 190 yards rushing and totaled 315 yards of offense.
