Seventeen DCSD football teams hit the field this weekend headlined by Thursday’s Cedar Grove vs. Redan Region 5-3A contest at Hallford Stadium in a week featuring nine region games.

The No. 1 ranked Cedar Grove Saints (2-0, 1-0) are coming off a 35-12 region win over Carver (Atlanta) last Friday night. The Saints lead the series 8-2 over Redan which started in 2002. The Saints have an eight game win streak against the Raiders including four in Region 5-3A play.

Redan (2-0, 0-0) comes into its first Region 5-3A game off a 28-20 win over Lakeside last Friday. The Raiders won the first two meetings between the DeKalb schools in 2002 (14-8) and 2003 (36-13).

Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm at Hallford Stadium on Thursday.

The Battle for the Golden Spike between Chamblee (1-0) and Dunwoody (0-2) takes center stage on Friday at North DeKalb Stadium at 7:30 pm.

Dunwoody leads the series 13-9 and has won the past six meetings, the last five under Head Coach Mike Nash. Dunwoody came away with a 37-0 win in last year’s matchup. Chamblee last won in 2012 (38-6) and 2013 (28-0).

Chamblee is coming off a 27-14 victory over Georgia Force this past weekend led by running back Brayson Seaborne (25 carries, 180 yards, 3 TDs). Dunwoody is led by senior quarterback Davis Ledoyen (Over 4,000 yards passing for his career).

Godfrey will be the site of a doubleheader of region contests from Region 6-2A and Region 6-4A on Friday night.

Towers (0-1, 0-1) collides with McNair (0-2, 0-2) in the 5:15 pm opener at Godfrey marking the 19th matchup in the series which is all knotted at 9-9. Towers has won six of the last seven meetings including last year’s 33-21 victory. McNair broke a five-game streak by Towers in 2018 with a 20-0 shutout.

The nightcap at Godfrey pits DeKalb foes Arabia Mountain (0-2, 0-1) and Miller Grove (1-1, 1-0) in Region 6-4A. The two teams have faced off over recent years in Region 5-5A, but both dropped to Class 4A this fall during reclassification.

The Rams have played two hard-fought defensive battles including a Region 6-4A opener loss 7-0 to Stephenson last week. Arabia Mountain leads the series 5-1 with five consecutive wins. Miller Grove won the first meeting in 2012 in nail biting 21-20 affair. The two teams dominated defensively a year ago with Arabia coming out with an 8-6 victory.

Godfrey Stadium plays host to the renewal of a short-lived series between the Stone Mountain Pirates (1-1, 0-1) and the Martin Luther King Jr. Lions (0-2, 0-0) on Saturday at 7:30 pm. The pair have not met since 2003 and this marks just their third meeting.

Stone Mountain leads the series 2-0 with wins in 2002 (14-0) and 2003 (12-6). The two teams are in Region 5-5A together this year with the Pirates moving up from Class 3A and King dropping from Class 6A this season.
