As the 2020 DeKalb County middle school basketball season moves into its final week of play there are no undefeated teams in boys’ action following a 56-49 victory by the Champion Chargers over the Salem Lions last Saturday night.
Champion was in bounce back mode after suffering its first loss of the season just three days earlier 50-40 to Chamblee as the Lions headed to Stone Mountain for the collision of region leaders.
Joshua Westbrook hit a pair of big three-pointers down the stretch for the Chargers (10-1, 6-0) to go with the board work by Jahnathan Crayton and Peyton Marshall (came off the bench in the second half). Crayton got some clutch offensive put backs to hold off Salem’s late run while Marshall pulled down some big boards in the second half.
Salem fell to 10-1 overall, but still leads the Region 3 standings at 7-0. Both teams have secured the region titles and No. 1 seeds heading into next week’s tournament.
