DeKalb County has a light home schedule this weekend of six games as eight teams go on the road and five more are taking the week off as we hit the midway point of the high school football season.

The undefeated Martin Luther King Jr. Lions (2-0) kick off their Region 4-6A schedule hosting the Mt. Zion Bulldogs (1-2) at Godfrey Stadium with kickoff set for 7:30 pm.

The Lions are coming off a bye week following consecutive wins over Villa Rica (26-14) and Arabia Mountain (40-6) as they opened the season 2-0 for the first time since 2013.

Quarterback Jacobi Haynes keys the offense as he has rushed for a team high 383 yards and four touchdowns and passed for 268 yards and three more touchdowns combined in the two wins.

Linebacker Jomel Robinson leads the defense averaging 9.5 tackles per game in the two wins. Senior teammates Marquel Parks and Colin White are averaging nine total stops heading into Friday’s contest.

Mt. Zion is coming off hard fought 14-9 upset of then No. 7 ranked Stephenson led by Georgia High School Football Daily Player of the Week Kameron Wilson who had 11 tackles including four for losses, two sacks and two quarterback hurries.

Adams Stadium plays host to a pair of games on Friday as Cross Keys hosts Johnson-Gainesville in the Indians’ Homecoming game at 5:15 pm to kick off the night’s action.

The second game of the doubleheader features a Druid Hills Red Devils (2-1) squad coming off a come-from-behind 14-7 victory over Towers last week and play host to Luella (0-3) in the two teams’ Region 4-4A opener at 8:00 pm.

McNair (0-3) tries to get into the win column this weekend with a Friday night Region 6-2A tussle with KIPP Academy of Atlanta (1-3) as the two teams also open region play.

The Stephenson Jaguars (2-1, 0-1) try to get back on the winning track in Region 4-6A as they host Morrow (2-2, 0-2) in a 7:30 pm game at Hallford Stadium.

One of the surprise teams in DeKalb this season is the Dunwoody Wildcats (2-1, 1-0) who have already equaled their win total of a year ago after knocking off Cambridge 21-19 in a Region 7-6A road contest last week that was delayed to Saturday due to lightning.

Wildcat quarterback David Ledoyen threw for 333 yards and two touchdowns in the win over Cambridge last Saturday. Tyler Eith was the beneficiary of Ledoyen’s targets as he hauled in 14 pass receptions for 213 yards and a touchdown. Isaac Anderson has put together three good games on defense for the Wildcats totaling 36 tackles (12/game), 1 sack, 2 tackles for a loss, 1 interception and 1 fumble caused.

Arabia Mountain, Chamblee, Clarkston, Lakeside, Lithonia, Miller Grove, Southwest DeKalb and Tucker all go on the road this weekend. Cedar Grove, Columbia, Redan, Stone Mountain and Towers are all open this weekend.
