The girls’ soccer season for DeKalb County schools came to an end on Wednesday night as the Chamblee Lady Bulldogs and Dunwoody Lady Wildcats fell in second round action of the state playoffs.

Decatur came into North DeKalb Stadium as the No. 2 ranked team in Class 5A and escaped the Lady Bulldogs of Chamblee with a 1-0 victory.

The game went scoreless almost 23 minutes before a direct kick by Decatur was deflected and knocked into the goal to give Decatur a 1-0 lead with 17:28 left in the first half.

Chamblee (9-7-3) got an opportunity with about two minutes left in the first half when Teagan Furbish got open in the middle, but her shot went just high over the goal and Decatur held the 1-0 advantage at the half.

An aggressive Chamblee team came out after half pressing the ball up the field, but several lead passes were just long allowing the Decatur goalie and defense to get the balls first.

Decatur (14-5-1) was able to hold the lead with a few upfield presses of their own, but neither team could find the net in the second half.

Dunwoody (13-5-0) had its season come to close with a 3-0 road loss to No. 3 Dacula in the Class 6A state playoffs.

Boys’ Sweet 16 play kicks off on Thursday with five DeKalb teams still in the postseason led by No. 3 Lakeside (15-1-3) which entertains Forsyth Central (13-5-0) in a 7:30 pm Class 7A contest at Adams Stadium.

Lakeside is coming off a tough 1-0 win over Peachtree Ridge in the opening round as goalie Andrew Seybolt pitched a shutout.

Class 6A playoff action has the No. 5 ranked Tucker Tigers (15-2-2) hosting No. 10 Greenbrier (13-5-0) at Hallford Stadium at 7:00 pm. Tucker defeated Coffee 5-0 to advance to the second round while Greenbrier knocked off South Effingham 4-0.

Two Class 5A DeKalb teams are ranked and hosting games on Thursday.

The No. 2 ranked (No. 11 USA Today National Poll) Cross Keys Indians (15-2-0) play hosts to No. 9 ranked Lithia Springs (15-2-0) in a 7:00 pm game at North DeKalb Stadium. Cross Keys advance with a 7-1 win over Cedar Shoals while Lithia Springs knocked off Kell 6-3.
