Several teams posted winning records, but only Miller Grove and Towers managed to make it through the week without falling at least once in the losing column.
Coach Terrence Canty’s Miller Grove Wolverines knocked off Luella by a 9-6 margin March 2 at Luella to go 1-0 on the week and improve to 2-2 overall on the year.
Coach Sylvester Allen’s Towers Titans, meanwhile, remained undefeated on the season at 2-0 with a 12-1 triumph over Clarkston March 2.
Columbia, Redan, Southwest DeKalb and Tucker also registered winning records of 2-1 for the week.
Senior Elijah Hammonds hurled a three-hit shutout for Columbia in a 5-0 blanking of Grady Feb. 27, striking out six and walking one over five innings. Hammonds (2-4; 1 RS; 1 2B), senior Tramaine Callaway (2-3; 2 RBI; 1 RS) and sophomore Markel Lloyd (2-3; 1 RS; 1 RBI) collected two hits each for the Eagles on the offensive end.
Columbia also rolled past McNair by a 20-5 margin, March 2, with senior Greg Morris (2-3; 3 RBI; 2 2B; 1 RS) and junior Dominique Humes (2-4; 2 RS; 2 RBI; 2 2B) leading the way at the plate. Callaway collected the mound decision for the Eagles in the contest, allowing only one hit and two earned runs to go with five strikeouts over three innings.
Redan raced to an easy 11-1 decision over Holy Innocents March 2. Senior Lyndon Weaver (2-2; 2 RS; 1 RBI), senior Orlando Adams (2-3; 2 RBI; 1 RS), senior Chayce Bryant (2-3; 2 RS; 2 RBI) and sophomore Ryan Pruitt (2-3; 2 RS; 1 RBI) shined at the plate in the contest, while sophomore Donye Evans struck out five and allowed only one hit and one run over six innings on the pitching end.
The Raiders also rolled to a 17-2 triumph over Columbia March 3 at Tucker, as seniors Kelvin Smith (2-2; 3 RS; 2 SB), Weaver (2-2; 3 RS; 1 RBI; 1 2B) and Taj Bradley (2-2; 3 RS; 1 2B) collected two hits each in the contest. Bryant earned the pitching decision for the Raiders, starting and striking out five over two innings.
Senior Stanford Flowers tossed a one-hit shutout in Tucker’s 13-0 blanking of Chamblee Feb. 3. Senior Miles Grayson (2-3; 3 RS; 1 2B; 1 SB), junior Christian Webb (2-4; 2 RS; 1 RBI; 1 RS) and senior Trevon Flowers (2-4; 2 RS; 2 RBI; 1 HR; 1 SB) led the offensive charge for the Tigers.
Stephenson received stellar no-hit pitching from three individuals in a 7-1 victory over Lithonia March 3. Junior Ga’von Wray (3 IP; 6 SO) started and earned the decision. Junior Talib McDaniel-Burdeaux (3 IP; 7 SO) and sophomore Shane Daley (1 IP; 1 SO) closed out the contest as the Jaguars registered 14 strikeouts. Sophomore Vincent Latimer (2-3; 1 RS; 1 RBI) led the way offensively for Stephenson.
Cedar Grove received two hits each from senior Rashad Preston (2-3; 3 RBI; 2 RS; 1 HR; 1 2B; 1 SB), junior Neiman Bruno (2-3; 2 SB; 1 RS), sophomore Koby Taylor (2-3; 1 RS) and freshman Jemel Johnson (2-3; 2 RS; 1 2B) in a 14-6 loss to Lakeside Feb. 27.
Senior David Albuquerque turned in a strong effort on the mound in Chamblee’s tough 4-3 loss to GAC Feb. 27, striking out five and allowing only three hits and two earned runs while going the full six innings.
Senior Johnathan Drake went the distance on the mound for Clarkston in a 4-3 triumph over McNair Feb. 27, striking out four and allowing only one hit and two earned runs over four innings. Junior Kwali Mickle shined at the plate for the Angoras, going 1-2 with two RBI, two stolen bases, one double and one run scored.
Senior Matthew Holt paced a nine-hit attack for Lakeside in a 14-6 victory over Cedar Grove Feb. 27. Holt finished 2-3 with two runs scored, two RBI and one stolen base.
