The Arabia Mountain Lady Rams used a 10-0 run, second-quarter run to pull away from the Lakeside Lady Vikings to a 45-29 victory to win the program’s first DCSD Junior Varsity Girls’ Basketball Championships to kick off Championship Saturday at Cedar Grove Middle School.
Leading 10-8 after Lakeside’s Ximena Garcia hit a basket to open the second quarter, the Rams behind six points by Lauren Randolph with assists from Kennedy Binns. Sydney Bunkley had a steal and a pair of baskets in the run as well to help extend the lead to 20-8 with 4:34 left in the first half.
Binns layup to end the half supplied the Rams with a 26-14 advantage at the break.
Jamila Ra-Hasim hit a three pointer and another jumper to give Arabia a 32-16 advantage with 3:33 to play in the third quarter.
Brieyona Johniken had five points all from the free-throw line in the final 2:14 to keep Lakeside within 38-23.
Arabia hit for only seven points in the final quarter, five from the free-throw line, while the Vikings had just six, four from Diamond Jackson.
Ra-Hashim hit for 15 points to lead Arabia Mountain which finished the season undefeated at 16-0. Randolph added 10 points for the Rams while Tournament MVP Kennedy Binns had eight points and nine rebounds.
Diamond Jackson had 13 points to lead Lakeside which finished 10-1 on the year.
