Championship Saturday in DeKalb County is all set as the 2018 DCSD Junior Varsity Basketball Championships are set for 11:00 am (girls) and 12:30 pm (boys) at Cedar Grove Middle School on Saturday.
Arabia Mountain is set to play for both titles including the undefeated girls’ matchup of the 12-0 Lady Rams and the 10-0 Lakeside Lady Vikings to start Championship Saturday.
The Lady Rams defeated Stephenson 58-36 in the semifinals and downed Tucker in a tight 46-43 opening round victory. Arabia Mountain is the Region 4 champion.
Lakeside also enters the title game undefeated after taking down Miller Grove in a one-score game 44-42 in the opening round and following it up with a hard fought 35-32 victory over Southwest DeKalb in the semifinals.
The Rams enter the finals at 9-3 and face four-time defending champ Miller Grove (8-4) which advanced with two wins over No. 1 seeds.
Arabia Mountain defeated Tucker 42-31 in the tournament’s opening round and followed up with a 72-61 on over Region 3 champ Stephenson in the semifinals.
Miller Grove entered the tournament as the Region 3 No. 2 seed at 6-4 and opened with a 49-44 defensive battle victory over Region 2 No. 1 seed Lithonia. The Wolverines made their fifth consecutive title game with a hard fought 44-41 semifinal victory over Region 1 No. 1 seed Southwest DeKalb.
