Six weeks remain in the 2017 high school football season and five DeKalb County (DCSD) teams remain in first place in their respective regions.

Tucker (7-1, 4-0) and Stephenson (6-2, 4-0) kept pace with each other with Region 4-6A victories this past weekend.

The No. 1 ranked Tigers went on the road to Twelve Oaks Stadium and shut down a potent Lovejoy offense on the way to a 36-7 win to keep the region slate unblemished.

Tucker rushed for almost 300 yards in the first half on the way to a 22-0 lead at the break. Gerry Vaughn got the Tigers off to a good start with a four-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. The two-point conversion was good for an 8-0 Tucker lead heading into the second quarter.

The Tigers scored twice in the second quarter on a 42-yard run by Joshua Vann and a 17-yard run by Travon Ford to go up 22-0. Kyle Wright hit both extra points.

Vaughn scored his second touchdown of the game on a 27-yard run in the third quarter. Wright was good on the extra point again for a 29-0 Tucker lead.

Lovejoy (4-4, 2-2) struck for its only score of the game in the third quarter on a Khalil Arnold 34-yard touchdown pass to Jerrod Means to make it 29-7 heading into the final period of play.

Darick Stephenson closed out the scoring with a 51-yard run for a touchdown to put Tucker up by the final score of 36-7.

Stephenson 21, Charles Drew 17
Stephenson forced four turnovers against Charles Drew on the way to a 21-17 win at Hallford on Friday night.

A hard hit on the Drew quarterback caused the first fumble recovered by the Jaguars at the Drew 33-yard line. The play set up an 8-yard TD run by Darren Parker for an early 7-0 Stephenson lead.

Gary Tyner pulled Drew into a tie with his TD run to make it 7-7.

The No. 8 ranked Jaguars answered with Ryan Ingram going the final seven yards for a score to make it 14-7. Drew managed a safety to close the gap to 14-9.

Stephenson used a 17-yard run by Parker to extend the lead to 21-9 until a final minute touchdown by Drew closed the score to the final of 21-17.

Arabia Mountain 24, Columbia 14
Tyler Suber had a pair of touchdown catches to lead the Arabia Mountain Rams (5-2, 2-0) to a 24-14 Region 5-5A victory over the Columbia Eagles (4-3, 1-1) at Avondale Stadium to stay on top in region play.

Suber caught touchdown passes of 71 yards from Joshua Campbell and 7 yards from Bryson Williams to give the Rams a 14-0 lead. Malcolm Grinnell added a 25-yard field goal and Justin Nelson scored on a 21-yard scamper into the end zone for the final of 24-14.

SW DeKalb 21, Miller Grove 0
The Southwest DeKalb Panthers (5-2, 2-0) kept pace with Arabia Mountain with a 21-0 shutout victory against the Miller Grove Wolverines (3-4, 0-2) on Friday at Godfrey Stadium.

Southwest DeKalb quarterback Justin Tomlin accounted for 338 yards of offense and three touchdowns to lead the Panthers to the win. He three for 248 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 90 yards and another touchdown. He connected with Francisco Hunter for a 15-yard score and Jamel Starks for the other score. Hunter finished the night with 176 yards rushing on 19 carries.

Miller Grove hung tough for three quarters trailing just 7-0 going into the fourth quarter. The Panthers then put up 14 points in the final quarter to close out the game.

Cedar Grove 28, Pace Academy 7
The No. 1 ranked Cedar Grove Saints remained undefeated on the season with a solid 28-7 victory on the road over Pace Academy.

The Saints (7-0, 4-0) have now won 16 consecutive games dating back to last October.

Pope 35, Dunwoody 34
The Dunwoody Wildcats fought gamely against the Pope Greyhounds rallying from behind four times before falling 35-34 in the final minutes of their Region 7-6A game at North DeKalb Stadium on Friday night.

Pope jumped out to a 21-7 lead at the half, but the Wildcats clawed back to tie the game at 21-21 behind the play of Zac Pankey (two touchdown runs, two touchdown passes) and Turner Nims (3 receptions, 103 yards, 2 TDs).

Pope took the lead again at 28-21 only to have the Wildcats knot the game again at 28-28. Pope again went ahead 35-28 only to see the never say die Wildcats pull within 35-34 only to have the tying point after try blocked.
