Janiran Bonner scored three touchdowns to lead the Bethune Lions to a convincing 40-14 victory over the Cedar Grove Saints to set up a showdown for first place in Region 4 against Chapel Hill this weekend.
Janiran Bonner carried 5 times for 50 yards and two touchdowns and had two receptions for 65 yards and a score for the Lions (4-0, 2-0). Rashad Dubinion rushed for 125 yards and two touchdowns on seven carries and caught a 25-yard pass while Jamel Nelson carried one time for 55 yards and a touchdown.
Quarterback Jabarhi Cleckley was 4 of 7 passing for 100 yards and a touchdown.
Defensively Santana Walton had 7 tackles and a force fumble to go with 8 tackles and a fumble recovery by Jaiden Fiagro. Caleb Pace added a sack for the Lions’ defense.
Bethune faces Chapel Hill (2-2, 2-0) on Saturday at Avondale Stadium with a 10:00 am kickoff to see which team can take control of the Region 4 lead. Cedar Grove (1-2-1, 1-1) faces Region 4 foe McNair (1-4, 0-3) in a 10:00 am game at Godfrey Stadium.

In other Region 4 action, the Columbia Eagles (2-3, 1-2) picked up one of 29 shutouts this season in DeKalb with a 6-0 victory over McNair (1-4, 0-3) at Godfrey Stadium.
Ventrillo Dunlap rushed seven yards for the only score and Roland Edwin had a key interception for the Eagles.
Jerimiah Griggs, Jeremiah Johnson and Abdoulaye Diallo were defensive standouts for McNair as the Colts’ defense turned the Eagles away on several occasions.
Tucker 58, Chamblee 0
The Tucker Tigers’ defense picked up its fourth shutout in five games this season with a 58-0 victory over Region 1 foes Chamblee Bulldogs.
Kaece Supples led the Tigers’ defense with 10 tackles, including 4 for a loss.
Letavius Johnson spurred the offense with 188 all-purpose yards and four touchdowns in the game for Tucker (5-0, 3-0). Johnson had touchdown runs of 45 yards and 30 yards, a 75-yard touchdown reception and a 34-yard punt return for touchdowns.
Tucker takes the week off after picking up its 29th consecutive regular season win. Chamblee (1-3, 1-1) takes on Henderson (1-3, 1-1) in a key Region 1 contest on Saturday at North DeKalb Stadium at 10:00 am.
Henderson 48, Sequoyah 0
The Henderson Cougars picked up a big Region 1 victory last Saturday at North DeKalb Stadium with a 48-0 shutout of Sequoyah (0-5, 0-3).
Henderson (1-3, 1-1) kept its playoff hopes alive and set up a key matchup with Chamblee (1-3, 1-1) in Region 1 this weekend at North DeKalb Stadium.
Champion 19, Stone Mountain 0
The Champion Chargers kept their playoff hopes alive with a 19-0 shutout of the Stone Mountain Pirates at Hallford Stadium last Saturday.
Amir Streeter scored a pair of touchdowns to lead the Chargers (3-1, 1-1) with one coming late in the first half for a 13-0 lead at the break and the second in the fourth quarter to help seal the victory. Tarance Breedlove scored the first touchdown on a three-yard run in the first quarter.
Champion had four backs rush for over 50 yards in the game including Streeter, Chris Barnes, David Brooks and Darrius Garrett. Garrett had a pair of interceptions to lead the defense while Regshun Lee’s late interception helped finish off the win.
The Chargers face Druid Hills (2-2, 0-2) on Saturday at Hallford Stadium in a game set for 10:00 am.
Stephenson 44, Druid Hills 0
Kiem Holmes returned an interception for a touchdown for the second week in a row to open the game to get the Stephenson Jaguars rolling in their 44-0 victory over Region 2 foes Druid Hills Dragons at Adams Stadium.
Calvary Ray converted on the two-point play and Stephenson was off and rolling at 8-0. Dylin Milbry had touchdown runs of 70 and 30 yards in the first half as Stephenson built a 36-0 lead at the half.
Adley Raphell added a 30 yard touchdown in his first action since a knee injury in the first game of the season. Donovan Logan had an 18-yard touchdown and a two-point conversion in the first half and Abubakar Kiarrassuba added a two-point conversion.
Cordell Andrews opened the second half with a 65-yard kickoff return to round out the scoring. It was Stephenson’s third shutout of the season and second consecutive.
Lithonia 12, Redan 0
The Lithonia Bulldogs (3-1, 2-0) moved into a first place tie with Miller Grove behind a 12-0 shutout of the Redan Raiders (1-3-1, 0-3) last Saturday at Hallford Stadium.
Steven Landers connected with Styland Scott on a 56-yard touchdown pass play and Scott wrapped up the scoring with a 62-yard punt return for a touchdown.
Lithonia meets Freedom (1-3, 0-2) on Saturday at 11:30 am at Avondale Stadium in a game they need to win to set up a first place showdown with Miller Grove the final week of the regular season.
Salem 22, Freedom 12
The Salem Lions (3-1-1, 2-1) set up a crucial showdown with the Miller Grove Wolverines (3-1, 2-0) in Region 3 with a 22-12 region victory over the Freedom Rams (1-3, 0-2) last Saturday at Avondale Stadium.
Jordan King and Karl Perkins Jr. both had rushing touchdowns to lead the Lions in the win. Larry Clausell came up big on defense with a fumble return for a touchdown.
Salem and Miller Grove lineup at 11:30 am on Saturday at Godfrey Stadium in a game that has playoff implications and first place in Region 3 on the line.
