The Bulldog runners from Chamblee squeaked out a one-point win in the opening boys’ race at Druid Hills on Tuesday despite having just one runner finish in the Top 10.

Chamblee put together a solid race with 56 points to edge out Druid Hills (57) and Clarkston (58) for the victory behind the fourth place finish of senior Charles Holt (18:48.90).

The next Chamblee runner to cross the finish line was senior James Burgett (19:37.70) in 11th who led a trio of Bulldogs coming across the line. Juniors George Williams (19:39.60) and Bennett Solomon (19:54.90) finished 12th and 13th, respectively. Freshman Diego DeAlba clinched the win with his 16th place finish in 20:02.80.

Druid Hills had a pair of Top finishers in junior Carter Rathur (18:27.10) who finished just .10 seconds out of first and junior Ian Shunk (19:07.30) in fifth. The Red Devils held a 36-40 advantage over Chamblee after four runners, but DeAlba crossed the line for Chamblee before a fifth runner for the Red Devils could make it across.

Clarkston looked to have the race locked up with three Top 10 finishes led by race winner Mathurn Allawai (18:27.00), junior Ngabo Daniel in sixth (19:11.20) and junior Abdoul Tolo in ninth (19:25.70).

A winner last week at Arabia Mountain Tucker junior Abdilnur Tiroro placed third in 18:32.30 to help the Tigers (84) to a fourth place finish. Lakeside (133) followed in fifth with Dunwoody (145) in sixth, Stephenson (215) in seventh, Cross Keys (215) in eighth and Southwest DeKalb coming in ninth with 272.

Lakeside senior Daniel Martinez (19:12.50) and junior Arturo Cabrerra (19:16.90) were in seventh and eighth, respectively, to pace the Vikings. Cross Keys senior Bladimir Morales was 10th in 19:33.00.

The Lady Bulldogs gave Chamblee its second consecutive sweep in DeKalb County action as they put five runners in the first 11 finishers to outrun Druid Hills 41-58 in the girls’ first race of the day.

Dunwoody picked up a 1-2 finish at the top of the girls’ individual standings as seniors Kelly May Sheehan (21:32.90) and Samantha Cameron (21:35.10) set the best two times in the county this year.

The Lady Wildcats would fall to third in the team standings with78 points as no other Dunwoody runner crossed until 18 spots later.

Chamblee’s Beining Xiao, a winner at Arabia Mountain last week, finished third to lead Chamblee’s assault on the Top 10.

The Lady Bulldogs took the eighth through 11th spots led by senior Parris Williams (25:35.20) followed by junior Madeline Miller (25:35.80) in ninth, senior Chloe Hyatt (26:10.70) in 10th and senior Emma Axelson (26:19.10) clinching the race in 11th.

Sophomore Genevieve Ferrara grabbed fourth place in a time of 23:04.00 and senior Emily Greipsson in seventh with a time of 24:43.30 to lead the Lady Red Devils second place finish.

Lakeside sophomore Sydney DeWoody (23:45.20) was fifth overall and Tucker’s Luma Younis was sixth in 24:04.10.

The Lions from Martin Luther King Jr. came away with a sweep of the 6:00 pm races. The Lions won the boys’ race by 53 points (22-75) as they cruised to the title.

Junior Demetrius Carson took third in 20:35.70 to finish third overall in leading three other Lions in the first seven to cross the line. Sophomore Christian Abraham (21:16.50) was fifth followed by junior James Adeferakan (21:18.10) in sixth and Phillip Ellison (21:25.80) in seventh. Deonne Wragg was 11th to finish the scoring for the Lions.

Southwest DeKalb’s senior Anthony Parker (19:30.80) and junior Nakai jack (20:13.50) crossed the finish 1-2 to lead the first group of runners.

Redan which finished fourth overall had a pair of runners in the Top 10 led by Allansa Providence (21:08.30) and Kingsley Harris was eighth (21:28.90).

Cedar Grove’s junior Tyvontae Stokes (21:32.50) and sophomore Gerald Walker (21:50.50) finished ninth and tenth, respectively, to lock in the Top 10.

The Lady Lions scored the top 5 spots in the girls’ race as the only team qualifiers to take the victory.

Southwest DeKalb’s Raven Thurman won the individual title with a time of 28:05.20 followed closely by Cedar Grove’s Trinity Ross (28:40.60) in second.

Martin Luther King’s Kanissa Hodges (29:43.70) and Corieanna Wilford (29:40.90 were third and fourth, respectively, to lead the Lady Lions run.

Chamblee put together a sweep of the junior varsity races at Druid Hills Middle on Tuesday.
The girls’ took the first five spots in the race to win 15-46 over Redan led by winner Annie Magee (17:22.40).

Ivy Rogers was second with a time of 17:27.00 followed by Emery Wahlen (17:44.10) in third, Sydney Luna (17:45.20) in fourth and Samantha Gudger (18:32.90) in fifth.

Martin Luther King’s Zar Anderson-Brown captured the boys’ individual title with a time of 13:16.10, but the Bulldogs put five runners in the top 11 to capture the team title.

Connor Lin was fourth in 14:36.10 to lead the Bulldog contingent with Charles Evans (14:58.30) in eighth, Zachary Reid (15:07.70) in ninth, Michael Kovacich (15:15.10) in 10th and Daniel Robinson (15:25.70) in 11th to wrap up the team title.
