A strong defensive performance propelled the Dunwoody Wildcats to a 16-0 shutout over the Chamblee Bulldogs to win the Battle of the Golden Spike for the fourth consecutive season.

Zach Pankey’s three-yard touchdown pass to Chris Sturken with 3:36 to play gave the Wildcats (2-0) a 16-0 lead to seal the victory at North DeKalb Stadium on Friday night.

The win was Dunwoody’s seventh in the past eight meetings of the Golden Spike series. Chamblee last won in 2013, a 28-0 victory.

The Wildcats broke a 0-0 tie with 7:58 to play in the first half on a Robby Hardin 11-yard touchdown run. Jamie Morrison’s extra point made it 7-0 heading into the half.

The two teams played a scoreless third quarter before the Wildcats drove into Chamblee territory early in the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs defense stiffened to force a field goal by Morrison that extended the Dunwoody lead to 10-0 with 9:33 to play in the game.

Chamblee fell to 1-2 on the season.

Arabia Mountain 46, Redan 6
Joshua Campbell rushed for 200-plus yards and five touchdowns to lead the Arabia Mountain Rams to a 46-6 win over Redan at Hallford Stadium on Friday night.

Quarterback Bryson Williams also had touchdown passes to Tyler Suber and Jordan Barrow in the win. The victory made the Rams 3-0 to start the season for the second year in a row.

Redan fell to 1-2 on the season.

M.L. King 19, Miller Grove 13
The Martin Luther King Jr. Lions gave first year head coach Deante Lamar his first career victory with a 19-13 win over the Miller Grove Wolverines at Godfrey Stadium on Friday night.

The Lions (1-2) built a 19-7 lead on touchdown runs by Jaelon Thomas and Donovan Corbett along with a 55-yard fumble return for a touchdown by Zachary Usher.

Miller Grove cut the lead to 19-13 with a fourth quarter score, but could not pull any closer. The Lions led 13-7 at the half on the way to improving their record to 6-0 in the series against Miller Grove. The Wolverines fell to 2-1 on the season with the loss.

Southwest DeKalb 28, Creekside 0
The Southwest DeKalb Panthers bounced back from their second week loss to Cedar Grove with a 28-0 shutout of Creekside on the road on Friday night.

The victory improved the Panthers’ record to 2-1 on the season while Creekside fell to 0-2.

Stone Mountain and Lithonia both picked up their first victories on the season on Friday night. The Pirates (1-2) knocked off Clarkston (0-3) 37-20 at Avondale Stadium. Lithonia improved to 1-2 on the year with a 21-13 road victory over Luella on Friday night.
