The fourth annual DCSD Spikefest Volleyball Tournament kick starts many of the county volleyball teams’ seasons on Friday (Aug. 11).
Chamblee, the 2016 runner-up, hosts the Gold Bracket beginning at 5:00 pm on Friday as Tucker takes on Druid Hills to kick off the tournament.
Chamblee reached the 2016 Class 5A Elite 8 and finished 37-9 on the season a year and leads a field of nine teams playing in the Bulldogs’ gym.
Joining Chamblee, Tucker and Druid Hills in the Gold Bracket are Lakeside vs. Southwest DeKalb (6:00 pm) and Arabia Mountain vs. Stone Mountain (6:00 pm). The teams involved in the 6:00 pm games all reached the state playoffs in their respective classifications in 2016.
Decatur takes on the Tucker/Druid Hills winner at 7:00 pm while host Chamblee faces off with Stephenson at 7:00 pm.
The Stone Mountain/Arabia Mountain and Tucker/Druid Hills losers meet at 8:00 pm to wind up Friday night’s action.
Losers’ bracket games open up action on Saturday at 10:00 am with the winners’ bracket second round matches set for 11:00 am.
Defending Gold champion Dunwoody is not participating this year after being invited to the Wesleyan Elite Eight Tournament on Saturday.
Redan is hosting the Silver Bracket after finishing as the Region 3-3A runner-up last season with a stellar 29-3 record. Redan also won the Silver Bracket championship a year ago.

Clarkston vs. McNair and Towers vs. Cedar Grove serve up the first action at Redan on Friday night at 5:00 pm. Towers was the No. 4 seed out of Area 3-3A in 2016.
Class 5A participant Miller Grove faces Martin Luther King Jr. and Class 5A state tournament participant Lithonia takes on Cross Keys at 6:00 pm.
Columbia faces the Cedar Grove/Towers winner and Redan takes on the Clarkston/McNair winner at 7:00 pm. Two losers’ bracket games are set 8:00 pm.
Second round loser’s bracket games open play on Saturday at 10:00 am with the second round of the winners’ bracket games set for 11:00 am starts.
The regular season gets underway on Tuesday (Aug. 8) six DCSD teams take to the court in season openers.
Chamblee travels to Decatur to face off with Luella and Decatur with the first match set for 5:00 pm. Clarkston hosts Stone Mountain at 5:00 pm and Lakeside and McNair travel to Lithonia for a tri-match at 5:00 pm.
Redan opens it seasons by hosting Morrow at 5:00 pm.
