Stephenson head coach Marco Jackson secured his 100th victory as the head coach at Stephenson in the top highlight among many for DeKalb County baseball squads last week.
Jackson’s historic triumph came in a 10-1 home triumph over Lovejoy March 27. Now in his eighth campaign as the head skipper at Stephenson, Jackson ended last week with a 101-97 overall record.
The Jaguars were one of eight local teams to post undefeated records last week, pounding Jonesboro by a 16-1 margin March 29 in going 2-0 and moving 13-7 overall.
Tucker remained even with Stephenson atop the Region 4-AAAAAA standings at 11-0, rolling past Martin Luther King Jr. (11-0) March 27 and Lovejoy (15-5) March 29.
Coach Vince Byams and the Tigers have won 12 in a row in improving to 16-6 overall.
Coach Donnie Hayes and the Lakeside Vikings ended a tough 1-4 stretch by posting three strong Region 7-AAAAAAA victories in a 3-0 outing last week. Lakeside knocked off Norcross by an 8-5 count on the road March 27 and then swept two straight from Meadowcreek (14-2) March 29 and Meadowcreek (16-1) again in moving to 12-7 overall.
Coach Pete Bartlewski and the Druid Hills Red Devils continued their hot play of late, easily taking a pair from Berkmar (13-1) March 27 and 16-1 March 28. Druid Hills has now won six straight and seven of eight overall in improving to 10-7 on the year.
Coach Terrence Canty’s Miller Grove Wolverines stayed in the thick of the hunt for a state playoff berth from Region 5-AAAAA, blanking Cross Keys (17-0) March 27 and 20-0 March 29 to move to 10-6 overall and 4-4 in the league.
Coach Alexander Wyche’s Redan Raiders grabbed the early advantage in Region 5-AAA, besting Lovett (6-4) March 27 and Westminster (7-2) March 29 in a 2-0 showing last week to improve to 12-8-1 overall and 6-0-1 in the league.
Senior Latrell Wyatt paced a 13-hit offensive attack in Redan’s key 6-4 Region 5-AAA triumph over Lovett March 27. Wyatt went 3-3 with two RBI, one run scored and two doubles. Junior Taj Bradley (2-3; 1 RBI; 1 2B), junior Orlando Adams (2-3), junior Chayce Bryant (2-2; 2 RBI; 1 RS; 1 HR) and senior Darius Pope (2-3; 1 2B) also added two hits each in the contest.
Pope also picked up the pitching triumph in relief, striking out five and allowing eight hits, two walks and one run over the final four innings.
The Raiders then came back two days later to score an equally impressive 7-2 victory over Westminster March 29. Senior Jalan Daniels registered the mound decision in this outing, striking out five, walking four and allowing four hits and two runs over six-and-one-third innings. Wyatt (2-3; 2 RS) and junior Kelvin Smith (2-3; 1 RS) led the offensive charge with two hits each. Seniors
Coach Sylvester Allen and the Towers Titans also kept alive their state playoff hopes alive with a 2-0 showing that included victories over McNair (17-4) March 27 and Stone Mountain (9-8) March 29.
Towers is now 6-8 overall and 3-4 in Region 5-AAA. Lithonia rounded out the list of undefeated records from last week.
Coach Samuel Marion’s Bulldogs fought to a 12-12 draw with Clarkston March 27 and then defeated the Angoras by an 11-6 margin March 29 in going 1-0-1 and moving to 3-7-1 overall for the year.
Javeon Cody (3-3; 3 RS; 5 SB) and Richard Dixon (2-4; 2 RS; 4 SB) and juniors Jeremy Hatchett (2-4; 1 RS; 1 RBI; 1 2B; 1 SB) and Justin Josey (2-4; 1 RS; 1 RBI; 1 2B; 1 3B) collected multiple hits for a Southwest DeKalb squad that held off a late rally before pulling out a critical 8-7 road triumph over Columbia March 29.
Senior Evan Fletcher picked up the pitching decision in Chamblee’s thrilling 4-3 home victory over Arabia Mountain March 27. In a contest that went 11 innings and was spread out over two days, Fletcher pitched three innings and allowed only one run, one hit and one walk.
Senior Adam Dixon went 2-5 with one run scored and one RBI at the plate for the Bulldogs. Junior Joseph Hiley went 3-5 with three RBI in helping Druid Hills roll past Berkmar (13-1) March 27. Junior Mason Curtis earned the pitching decision, striking out two and allowing no earned runs over four innings.
