It was a strong week of action on the DeKalb County baseball front last week as seven DCSD teams posted undefeated marks during this past week’s action.
Chamblee and Tucker led the way with identical 4-0 marks.
Coach Brian Ely’s Chamblee Bulldogs out-scored Cross Keys (16-0) March 20, Berkmar (13-3) March 21, Clarkston (15-0) March 23 and Clarkston (14-2) March 24 by a cumulative margin of 58-5 in improving to 15-5 overall and 5-1 in Region 5-AAAAA.
Coach Vince Byams and the Tucker Tigers ran their winning streak to 10 in a row, romping past Mt. Zion (10-0) March 20, Forest Park (7-1), March 21, Mt. Zion (16-1) March 22 and Martin Luther King Jr. (12-0) March 24 by a 45-2 count in improving to 14-6 overall and retaining a share of the Region 4-AAAAAA lead with Stephenson at 9-0.
Stephenson put together a perfect 3-0 showing last week, as coach Marco Jackson’s Jaguars rolled to impressive triumphs over Martin Luther King Jr. (13-1) March 20, Martin Luther King Jr. (7-3) March 22 and Lovejoy (16-4) March 23 to improve their winning streak to nine in a row and overall record to 11-7.
Arabia Mountain moved into sole possession of first place in Region 5-AAAAA at 6-0 with a perfect 3-0 showing last week. Coach Eric Hoxie’s Rams took care of Southwest DeKalb (9-3) March 20, Miller Grove (9-0) March 22 and Miller Grove (12-7) March 24 to move to 11-5 overall.
Coach Steve Dennis and the Columbia Eagles also went 3-0 to stay even with Chamblee in second place in Region 5-AAAAA at 5-1. Columbia rolled past Clarkston (15-0) March 20, Lithonia (10-0) March 22 and Lithonia (10-4) March 24 to improve to 16-3 overall.
Coach Pete Bartlewski and the Druid Hills Red Devils made a move up the Region 4-AAAA standings with a stellar 3-0 showing last week. Druid Hills swept a three-game set from North Clayton by the scores of 11-1 March 20, 12-2 March 23 and 11-0 March 24 in moving to 8-7 overall and 6-3 in the region.
Coach Alexander Wyche and the Redan Raiders also stayed in the hunt for regular season honors in Region 5-AAA, besting Cedar Grove (9-0) March 20 and Cedar Grove (7-1) March 22 while also settling for a draw with Lovett (7-7) March 21 in going 2-0-1 and moving to 10-8-1 overall and 5-0-1 in the region.
INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS: Freshman Jordan Dennis finished 4-5 with four runs scored in pacing a 26-hit offensive attack for Towers in a 15-5 triumph over McNair March 24. Junior Terry Dennis (3-5; 2 RBI; 2 SB), freshman Javon Freeman (3-5; 2 RS; 2 RBI; 2 SB), junior David Manigo (3-5; 3 RS; 2 RBI; 2 SB), sophomore William Booker (3-4; 2 SB), senior Tavarus Clark (3-4; 2 SB) and senior Kendall Wiley (3-4; 2 RS; 2 SB) also shined at the plate. Manigo also struck out nine and allowed five hits on the pitching mound in the game.
