The No. 1 seeded Cedar Grove Saints (15-5) rolled to a 79-44 victory over the McNair Mustangs (3-20) to secure a Class 3A State Tournament berth on Monday at Redan in Region 4-3A Boys’ Tournament play.

Jamari Dean hit for 10 of his 12 first half points in the second quarter to help the Saints take advantage of eight McNair turnovers to pull away to a 38-18 halftime lead.

Malik Johnson hit for eight of his 11 points in the game during the third quarter as the lead ballooned to 56-32.

Dean finished with 15 points for Cedar Grove and Johnson added his 11. Josh Jenkins hit for a game-high 16 to lead McNair in the loss.

Towers (11-11) battled Lovett (17-9) closing the gap to 67-66 with 2:25 to play before the Lions would hit 13 of 14 from the free-throw line to close out the 80-68 victory to advance. Ryan Greer hit for a game-high 41 points to lead Lovett, including 9 of 10 from the line in the final 1:46.

Stone Mountain (7-16) had its season come to an end as Westminster’s Zae Malcome hit a layup with 3.2 seconds to play for a 43-41 lead in the game that finished up 44-41. Azanius Cole had 15 points to lead Stone Mountain in the loss.

Redan (10-12) fell out of postseason action with a 69-46 loss to Pace Academy (21-8) as Wendell Carter hit for 27 points and pulled down 11 rebounds in the win.

Tyonn Stuckey finished with 13 points for Redan and Jabrill Wyckoff added 10.

The No. 1 seed Cedar Grove Lady Saints (14-3) face the McNair Lady Mustangs (0-15) in the 8:30 pm night cap at Redan. No. 2 seed Redan (16-6) takes on Towers (5-12) at 5:30 pm with Lovett (16-9) vs. Stone Mountain (6-15) following at 7:00 pm

Region 4-4A
The Druid Hills Red Devils (11-14) came in as the No. 6 seed and promptly knocked out No. 3 seeded and host Woodward Academy (14-11) 56-46 to earn a state tournament berth for the first time since the 2013 season.

Druid Hills held Woodward until 10 points in both the second and third quarters on the way to a 45-29 lead.

Druid Hills takes No. 2 seed Eastside (17-8), winner of Luella (3-22) on Monday, in semifinal play on Wednesday at 6 pm at Woodward.

In girls’ play tonight, Druid Hills (1-21) faces off with North Clayton (15-9) at 7:30 pm

Region 4-6A
Martin Luther King Jr. picked up a pair of wins in play-in action in the Region 4-6A Tournament at Tucker to move within one win of state playoff berths.

The Lady Lions (7-18) won 49-36 over Mt. Zion-Jonesboro (1-22) to advance into the main draw in the girls’ tournament. The Lions (7-15) kept Lovejoy winless on the season with a 58-35 victory to move forward in the boys’ tournament. Both teams return to action
on Wednesday.

Tucker and Stephenson both have girls’ and boys’ team in action tonight as Tucker hosts four more games with playoff berths on the line tonight.

Region 7-7A
The Lakeside Vikings (14-11) pulled out a 57-55 win over Central Gwinnett (11-14) in Region 7-7A boys’ play at Brookwood on Monday.

The Vikings move on to face Brookwood (13-11) tonight at 8:00 pm. The Lady Vikings (9-13) open play today at 3:30 pm as they take on Central Gwinnett (14-11) with a state tournament berth on the line.
