The 2017 DCSD Middle School Basketball Championships kickoff on Saturday (Jan. 28) with seven play-in games deciding who advances to the main draw of the tournament on Wednesday (Feb. 1).
Sequoyah Middle School is one host site to two games as Sequoyah (1-12) takes on Lithonia (6-7) in the 10:00 am girls’ game. The winner advances to Wednesday’s action at Region 1 champ Chamblee (12-1) at 5:00 pm.
Sequoyah (0-13) also plays in the boys’ game as Bethune (2-10) travels over to play at 11:15 am for a spot in the main draw. The winner advances to play at Region 1 champ Chamblee (12-1) on Wednesday at 6:15 pm.
Tucker Middle is also hosting as the Lady Tigers (4-9) take on the Salem Lady Lions (2-11) in the girls’ game to open play at 10:00 am. The victor moves into the main draw against undefeated Region 4 champ and host Chapel Hill (13-0) in a 5:00 pm game on Wednesday.
The Tigers (6-7) take on Columbia (2-11) in the 11:15 am boys’ game. Region 4 champ Chapel Hill (11-2) hosts the winner at 6:15 pm on Wednesday.
Two more games take place at Freedom Middle as the Lady Rams (2-11) face off with Druid Hills (5-8) in the 10:00 am girls’ contest. Region 3 champ Miller Grove (12-1) hosts the winner on Wednesday at 5:00 pm.
The home-standing Rams (3-10) meet up with the Henderson Cougars (3-10) in the 6:15 boys’ game. The team that comes out on top travels to Region 3 champ Lithonia (11-2) in the 6:15 pm boys’ game on Wednesday.
Stone Mountain (1-11) travels to McNair (3-9) for an 11:15 pm contest in boys’ action. Region 2 champ Champion (12-1) will host the first round game on Wednesday at 6:15 pm against the winner.
The Columbia Lady Eagles (3-11) advanced via a forfeit by Redan (0-14) and meets up with undefeated Region 2 titlist Champion (13-0) at 5:00 pm on Wednesday.
The No. 2 and 3 seeds in Region 4 boys’ play are yet to be decided due to a tie between Cedar Grove (6-7, 4-4) and Salem (6-7, 4-4). Cedar Grove hosts the tiebreaker game on Saturday at 10:00 am.
The winner advances as the No. 2 seed and faces Region 2 No. 3 Redan (6-6) in the 6:15 pm game at Cedar Grove on Wednesday. The loser is the No. 3 seed and will travel to Region 2 runner-up Renfroe (11-2) for the 6:15 pm game.
