The Dunwoody Lady Wildcats retained the crown of DeKalb County girls’ junior varsity cross country champions for the sixth consecutive season with a 30-41 victory over the Lakeside Lady Vikings in the 2016 DCSD County JV Championships.
Dunwoody place five runners in the Top 10 to offset a Lakeside sweep of the Top 2 places by individual champ Abbie Hunter (14:34.20) and runner-up Grace Ellett (14:41.50).
Megan Johnson (14:47.90) and Ashley Altera (14:58.90) followed in third and fourth, respectively, to lead the five Lady Wildcats in the Top 10.
Claire Porcher (15:16.00) and Ahna Lorden (15:17.60) grabbed sixth and seventh in order for Dunwoody to put the Lady Wildcats one runner from clinching their sixth consecutive title and eighth overall since 2007.
Lauren Courtney (15:33.30) crossed the finish line in 10th to be the clinching runner for the Lady Wildcats.
Southwest DeKalb’s Nay Bostic (15:10.50) picked up a fifth place finish for fourth place Southwest DeKalb (134).
Third place Chamblee (74) put two runners in the Top 10 in Ansley Morehouse (15:23.90, 8th) and Abigail Washburn (15:24.60, 9th).
The rest of the girls’ team finishes were Druid Hills (152) in fifth, Arabia Mountain (160) in sixth and Stephenson (171) in seventh.
Boys Championship
The Lakeside Vikings regained the boys’ DCSD title with a dominating performance 19-47 over defending champion Dunwoody and the rest of the field.
The Vikings swept the first four places and added a fifth Top 10 finish at ninth to grab their 10th title overall since 2005.
Alex Bachman (12:15.50) led the way for Lakeside to win the top individual award as he outran teammate Mikias Mekonen (12:16.30) down the stretch to claim the gold.
William Nelson (12:17.00) and Daniel Martinez (12:18.20) were right on their teammates’ heels to finish third and fourth, respectively, for the Vikings.
Grant Prusik (12:39.40) was the championship clinched as the cross the finish line in ninth overall.
Dunwoody’s second place finish came behind a trio of top 10 runners in Abhner Boves (12:29.90, 6th), Ben Bass (12:34.90, 7th) and Carson Bregitzer (12:45.90, 10th).
Arabia Mountain’s Zai Anderson-Brown grabbed a fifth place finish with a time of 12:27.90.
Clarkston’s (102) third place finish was keyed by Ammar Abbkar (12:39.00) in eighth place.
The rest of the team finishes included Druid Hills (113) in fourth, Chamblee (132) in fifth, Arabia Mountain (138) in sixth, Tucker (159) in seventh, Stone Mountain (241) in eighth, Stephenson (272) in ninth and Martin Luther King (278) in tenth.
