Jamil Greene had 4 tackles (1 sack) 30 yards rushing and a 9-yard touchdown reception to lead the Freedom Rams to a 4-0 start on the season with a 22-0 Region 1 victory over the Druid Hills Dragons on Saturday at North DeKalb Stadium.
Bryan Morris added 3 tackles (1 sack) to aid in the shutout win for Freedom (4-0, 2-0). Jaion Chandler, Keith Titus and Drevon Johnson all added 3 tackles for the Rams.
Javon Titus who had a pair of tackles on defense contributed 24 yards rushing and a 10-yard touchdown reception while Keith Titus added a 10-yard touchdown run. Xavier Wright was three of four passing for 44 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Rodreckus Murphy had 6 tackles and added 47 yards rushing for Druid Hills (1-3, 0-2).
The Rams will take the week off this Saturday (Week 5) and get ready for a stretch run towards the playoffs as they take on Chamblee in Week 6. Druid Hills faces off with Sequoyah on Saturday in a 10:00 am game at Adams Stadium.
Stephenson 10, Bethune 0
The Stephenson Jaguars opened Region 3 action with a 10-0 victory over the previously unbeaten Bethune Lions on Saturday at Godfrey Stadium.
Isiah Marshall’s 17-yard touchdown run in the second half put the game away for the Jaguars (3-0, 1-0) who had led 3-0 early on an Emmanuel Perez Rios 27-yard field goal.
Armond Anderson came up big on defense for the Jaguars with several big tackles and a pair of interceptions to help preserve the shutout.
Stephenson travels to Decatur to take on Renfroe (1-3, 0-2) in a Region 3 game set for 10:00 am at Decatur High School.
Cedar Grove 8, Columbia 6
Defense ruled as a big defensive hit set up the Cedar Grove Saints late rally for an 8-6 Region 4 victory over the Columbia Eagles on Saturday at Godfrey Stadium.
Columbia (1-3, 1-1) scored early in the second quarter to take a 6-0 lead on a 15-yard run by Daronte Bryant, but the two point conversion failed.
The defenses battled to keep the score at 6-0 until late in the fourth quarter when the Saints (2-1, 1-0) came up with the big play.
Linebackers Santonio Dixon and Timothy Newman came up with a big hit to knock the football loose for the Saints and teammate Javarius Sims recovered the football to give the Saints an opportunity to tie or win the game.
Quarterback William Flounary finished the scoring drive with a two-yard run for the tying touchdown. The Saints set up to kick for the go-ahead point, but a mishandled snap left the ball on the ground. Kicker Louis Dominquez picked up the loose ball and tight end Jared Holiday made the big block to spring him for the two-point conversion for the game winner.
Cedar Grove (2-1, 1-0) takes on Salem* (1-3, 1-1) in an 11:30 am kickoff at Godfrey Stadium on Saturday in Region 4 play.
Redan 12, Peachtree 6
Malik Sims and Ali McDaniel scored touchdowns and the Redan Raiders’ defense held the previously undefeated Peachtree Patriots in check for a 12-6 victory on Saturday at Avondale Stadium.
The Raider defense was led by Jaden Lee with 6 tackles and two sacks each from Caleb Grant and Anthony Franklin.
Sims finished with 48 yards rushing while McDaniel had 46 passing yards, 32 rushing yards and 5 receptions for 76 yards and the touchdown. Selatian Straughter had 83 yards passing including the touchdown to McDaniel and 17 yards receiving.
Redan takes on Champion (2-2, 1-1) in a key Region 2 matchup on Saturday at Avondale with kickoff set for 10:00 am.
Lithonia 20, Renfroe 8
Bobby Woodson had a 60-yard touchdown run and the Lithonia Bulldog defense came up with some big plays in a 20-8 Region 3 win over the Renfroe Bulldogs at Avondale Stadium on Saturday.
Styland Scott was the big play on defense with a pair of interceptions in the win. Kristopher Williams had a safety and Kriston Esnard had a pair of field goals to lead Renfroe.
Lithonia (2-2, 1-1) takes the week off while Renfroe (1-3, 0-2) hosts the undefeated Stephenson Jaguars (3-0, 1-0) at Decatur High School at 10:00 am.
Champion 19, Stone Mountain 0
The Champion Crusaders evened their record at 2-2 on the season behind a great team effort in a 19-0 shutout victory over Region 2 foes Stone Mountain Pirates at Avondale Stadium on Saturday.
EJ Walker and Jordan Grier guided the offense in the win as they both rushed for over 100 yards and a touchdown in the game. Cecil Davis sealed the win in the fourth quarter with his touchdown to round out the scoring.
The Charger defense allowed the Pirates just one first down for the game as Camiren Collins and Joseph Roberts each had an interception and Tory Jones added a pair of quarterback sacks in the shutout.
Champion (2-2, 1-1) faces Redan (2-2, 1-1) in a Region 2 game set for a 10:00 am kickoff at Avondale Stadium. Stone Mountain (1-2, 0-1) takes on undefeated Tucker (3-0, 1-0) in Region 2 action set for 11:30 am at Adams Stadium.
Salem 46, McNair 26
The Salem Lions overcame an outstanding performance by McNair’s Javon Yearby for a 44-26 Region 4 victory over the Colts at Godfrey Stadium last Saturday.
Yearby running behind a replace line including center Jeremiah Johnson along with Isaiah Maia and Camron Beshea rushed for 175 yards for the Colts.
Salem (1-3, 1-1) faces Region 4 foe Cedar Grove (2-1, 1-0) on Saturday at 11:30 am at Godfrey Stadium. McNair (0-4, 0-2) takes the week off.
Chamblee 58, Sequoyah 0
The Chamblee Bulldogs had three players score two touchdowns apiece on the way to the team’s first win of the season in a 58-0 victory over Region 1 rival Sequoyah on Saturday at North DeKalb Stadium.
Josh Moore, Seth Alford and Tony Williams all reached the end zone twice for the Bulldogs in the win.
Chamblee (1-2, 1-0) faces off with Henderson (1-2, 1-0) in a crucial Region 1 game for both teams at North DeKalb Stadium at 10:00 am. Sequoyah (0-4, 0-2) travels to Adams Stadium for a 10:00 am kickoff against Region 1 rival Druid Hills (1-3, 0-2).
