Clarkston senior Bineyam Tumbo ran a 17:17.23 to win the first boys’ race at Druid Hills Middle School Course on Tuesday to lower his own county’s fastest time by 18.61 seconds.
He along with four other Angora runners in the Top 10 led Clarkston to a 21-61 win over the Lakeside Vikings. Druid Hills was a distant third with 91 followed in order by Chamblee 105, Tucker 106, Dunwoody 205, Stone Mountain 221 and Cross Keys 339.
Clarkston sophomore Rukundo Uwimana was second in 17:37.23 cutting 10 seconds off his fastest time of the season. Fellow sophomore Thomas Weldemichal (18:06.45) was fourth, sophomore Ngabo Daniel (18:11.44) was sixth and junior Abdi Nasir Yahye (18:35.02) was eighth to round out the Top 10 finishers for the Angoras.
Lakeside’s second place finish was led by junior Myles Boyd (18:34.11) who came across in the seventh place spot. Third place Druid Hills had senior Ermias Tewolde (17:49.96) in third and sophomore Carter Rather (18:58.26) in ninth.
Chamblee sophomore Bennett Solomon (18:10.02) was fifth overall and Tucker senior Ryan Wurapa (18:59.62) was 10th to round out the Top 10.
Chamblee junior Beining Xiao ran the fastest girls’ time in the county this season coming across first in 21:17.24 to lead the Lady Bulldogs to a tight 45-52 victory over second place Druid Hills. Dunwoody was third with 84 points followed in order by Lakeside 108, Southwest DeKalb 150, Clarkston 185, Tucker 248 and Stephenson 274.
Sophomore Annie MaGee was the only other Chamblee runner to finish in the Top 10 with a sixth place finish in 24:20.42. Three other Lady Bulldogs would finish in the Top 15 including sophomore Laila Elmattrawy (24:59.08) in 11th, junior Paris Williams (25:06.97) in 13th and sophomore Madeline Miller (25:07.91) in 14th to overcome Druid Hills having four Top 10 finishers.
Senior Rachel Jueing who has two of the Top 10 times at Druid Hills this fall led the way for the Lady Red Devils in third place with her time of 23:21.90. Junior Lydia Medford (24:12.10) was in fifth followed by Olivia Montcastle (24:40.78) in eighth and freshman Genevieve Ferrara (24:41.44) in ninth.
Southwest DeKalb sophomore Lanee Edwards (23:02.53) took second overall while Lakeside junior Eliana Blum (23:43.64) was fourth.
Cross Keys junior Vanessa Rubio was seventh in 24:36.17 and Dunwoody sophomore Kate Marion (24:53.46) rounded out the Top 10 in 10th.
Arabia Mountain swept the second varsity races by placing six runners in the Top 10 in both the boys’ and girls’ competition.
Senior Malik Wright (21:26.28) and sophomore Ridge Turner (21:49.86) finished back-to-back in second and third to lead the way for the Rams in the boys’ race as the Rams defeated Lithonia 24-75. Columbia was third with 125 points.
The Rams also swept the fifth and sixth spots as junior Sam Garrett (22:19.75) and Kingsley Harris (22:20.43) followed each other across the line.
Sophomore Thomas Douglas (23:05.31) was eighth and junior Zion Greer (23:48.26) was 10th for the Rams.
Miller Grove’s Joel Mazelin won his second consecutive race with a time of 20:47.56 and Martin Luther King Jr. sophomore Demetrius Carson (22:07.64) was fourth.
Lithonia sophomore Brison Rockcliffe (22:57.75) was seventh and Redan junior Joseph Jones (23:25.81) was ninth to round out the Top 10 finishers.
Senior Sydni Rush clocked a time of 26:32.25 to win the girls’ race and lead the way for Arabia Mountain’s 30-51 win over Miller Grove. Cedar Grove was third with 94 points.
Junior Makayla Swann (29:42.22) was next for the Lady Rams finishing fifth. Arabia Mountain swept the seventh through 11th slots led by sophomore Kennedi Manning (30:37.00) followed in order by Junior Skyy Dubose 931:47:01) and sophomores D’aneizha Blackshear (31:48.26), Alina Shoemake (31:50.05) and Asya White (31:56.26).
Miller Grove’s second place finish was led by the two-three finish of Lauryn Griggs (27:26.67) and Chance Barnes (27:38.14).
Columbia junior Franol Hulufe (28:56.30) was fourth and Cedar Grove’s Tyra Cullum (29:56.55) rounded out the Top 10 finishers in sixth.
Arabia Mountain hosts the next DCSD cross country meet on Tuesday, September 13 beginning at 5:15 pm.
The opening varsity race includes entries from host Arabia Mountain, Cedar Grove, Columbia, Lithonia, Miller Grove, Southwest DeKalb and Stephenson.
The 5:45 pm varsity race features Clarkston, Cross Keys, Martin Luther King Jr., McNair, Redan, Towers and Tucker.
