FootballThe Stone Mountain Pirates broke a seven-game losing streak in a hard fought 6-0 victory over the Druid Hills Dragons last Saturday.

Stone Mountain (1-1) had not won a game since the final week of the regular season in 2014, went winless in 2015 and had lost its season opener in 2016.

Druid Hills (1-1) had big defensive effort led by Titus Pitts who snared three interceptions in the game. Druid Hills’ Rimario McClinton rushed for 52 yards for the Dragons.

Stephenson 13, Salem 6
Armond Anderson was the big play guy for the Stephenson Jaguars as he led his team to a 13-6 non-region win over the Salem Lions on Saturday.

Anderson came up with several key tackles on defense and an interception as the Jaguars (2-0) limited Salem to a lone touchdown in the game.

Joseph Jackson connected with Anderson for a 15-yard touchdown pass as Anderson made his presence known on the offensive side of the football.

De’Quinn Taylor scored on a five-yard run for the difference make for Stephenson. Salem fell to 0-2 on the season.

Cedar Grove 20, Renfroe 0
Cedar Grove got back on the winning track with a 20-0 shutout of Renfroe on Saturday.

The Saints (1-1) not only shutout the Bulldogs (1-1) but got a defensive score as well. Defensive tackle Demarius Jackson caused a fumble and linebacker Frank Osborne recovered for the touchdown.

Offensively, the Saints were led by Deshawn Young who scored two touchdowns, one receiving and one rushing, to lead Cedar Grove in the win.

Redan 28, Sequoyah 6
Redan evened its record at 1-1 with a 28-6 victory over Sequoyah on Saturday behind quarterback Dylan Milbry’s play.

Milbry passed for 143 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 34 yards and a touchdown in leading the Raiders offense. Tyler Haberham rushed for 73 yards, one touchdown and two two-point conversions. Selatian Struagther ran for 53 yards and had 70 yards receiving in the game.

Sequoyah fell to 0-2 on the season.

Peachtree 7, Henderson 0
Bradley Field went for 73 yards and a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage and the Peachtree Patriots played tough defense on the way to a 7-0 win over Henderson.

A trio of Patriot defenders had three total tackles and three tackles for a loss in Corey Neal, Evin Scott and Tyler Rush in the game. Grant Jones and Grey Kuriger both collected an interception in the game as the Patriots defense.

Peachtree is 2-0 on the season while Henderson fell to 0-2.

Freedom 6, Champion 2
The Freedom Rams came out on top 6-2 over the Champion Chargers in a tough defensive battle.

Freedom’s Bryan Morris had a sack and caused a fumble just before the end of the third quarter and Xavier Wright recovered at the Champion seven to set up the game’s lone touchdown.

Carl Wilson sent Freedom (2-0) into the fourth quarter up 6-0 with his five-yard touchdown run.

The Rams put together two big defensive stands in the fourth quarter. The first came as Champion (1-1) drove to the Freedom two-yard line and were facing fourth and goal. The Rams’ defense forced an incomplete pass to give the offense the ball back at its own two.

Champion, which had a tough three overtime win a week ago, came up with a big play as Jordan Grier made a tackle in the end zone Wright for the safety to trim the lead to 6-2.

Freedom’s defense came up big again following the free kick with a big fourth down stop at midfield to get the ball back. The Rams were able to run out the clock to preserve the victory.

Wilson added 5 tackles on defense to his touchdown while Demetrius Ragland, Derrick Jones, Jaion Chandler and Jamil Greene contributed three tackles apiece for the Rams. Bryan Morris had the big sack and fumble caused to go with a pair of tackles in the game.

Grier finished with five tackles including the safety to lead Champion. Cecil Davis rushed for 63 yards while LaMarr Randolph, Jordan Grier and EJ Walker all had receptions in the game.

Tucker 22, Chamblee 0
Tucker ran its regular season win streak to 20 consecutive games with a 22-0 victory over Chamblee.

The Tigers were led offensively by Randy Britt’s 75 yards rushing and two touchdowns. The defensive shutout was led by the linebacking corps of Britt, Keeman Hayes and Brandon Clark.

Tucker is 2-0 on the season and Chamblee fell to 0-2.

Region play begins on Saturday as teams begin their quest to the Trail to the Title playoffs. Cedar Grove, Chamblee, Stephenson and Stone Mountain have the week off.
