The Dunwoody Lady Wildcats went 4-0 to successfully defend their DCSD Spikefest Gold Bracket title.
Dunwoody reached the finals with victories over Arabia Mountain (25-8, 25-12), Lakeside (25-14, 25-18) and Decatur (25-15, 25-18) before meeting 2014 Spikefest champ and host Chamblee in the championship match.
A tough 25-21, 25-17 victory in the title match gave the Lady Wildcats their second consecutive title in the event. Dunwoody improved to 6-0 having defeated Lambert and Roswell earlier in the week.
Chamblee (4-2) took a little tougher road to the finals after defeating Druid Hills 25-10 and 25-7 in opening round play. The Lady Bulldogs dropped a three-set thriller to Decatur by forcing a third set with an exciting 31-29 victory after losing the opening set 25-21 to Decatur. The two battled to a 15-15 tie in the deciding set before Decatur finished with a 17-15 to advance to the winner’s bracket final against Dunwoody.
Chamblee reeled of wins over Tucker (25-10, 25-7) and Lakeside (25-15, 25-20) to reach the semifinals and rematch with Decatur which had lost to Dunwoody.
A 25-19 win in the opening set got Chamblee off to a good start against Decatur only to fall 25-21 in the second set as Decatur forced a third set. Chamblee cruised to a 15-7 victory to claim the match and advance to the finals against Dunwoody.
Dunwoody had a pair of All-Tournament selections in Bridgett Boyle (Tourney MVP) and Madison McKnight while tough Kyla Manning and Rachel Loftus of Chamblee made the All-Tournament team.
Other All-Tournament selections were Majesty Ferguson and Gabrielle Morse from Lakeside, Lily Sapphire of Decatur, Ebony Upshaw of Arabia Mountain and Melody Jackson of Tucker.
Redan hosted and captured the Silver Bracket title with four consecutive wins including the championship final 25-7, 25-17 over Columbia.
Redan advanced to the championship with wins over McNair (25-9, 25-9), Towers (25-8, 25-9) and Columbia (25-9, 25-11).
Columbia defeated Miller Grove and Martin Luther King to reach the winner’s bracket final and would face and defeat Miller Grove again in the semifinals.
Miller Grove rebounded from its first round loss to Columbia with wins over Cross Keys, Martin Luther King and Lithonia (25-19, 25-21). Lithonia had rallied from a first round loss to Martin Luther King with wins over Cedar Grove, McNair and Towers.
Redan’s Johnquanek Spencer was named the tournament MVP and teammate Kiola Symister was named to the All-Tournament team. The only other All-Tournament selections available were Lithonia’s Trinity Ross and Cedar Grove’s Quineisha Seabrums.
