Redan sophomore Mya Hemingway is set to compete on the uneven parallel bars tonight (Friday, April 22) in the 2016 GHSA State Gymnastics Meet at Westminster.
Hemingway scored a 9.0 on the bars in the state qualifying meet last weekend and is the only DeKalb County gymnast competing in the state meet.
She finished third in the DeKalb County Championships All-Around competition for the second consecutive season with a total of 32.15, just 2.25 points off the pace by 2016 All-Around champion Noelle Senior of Arabia Mountain.
She and 2015 DCSD All-Around champ Zaaynah Saadiq (32.20) led Redan to its first DCSD Gymnastics title in 20 seasons in 2015. Hemingway finished just 1.95 points behind Saadiq a year ago.
Competition begins at 7:00 pm tonight with Hemingway in Individual Group 1 which will perform on the bars in the last rotation of the evening.
