Coach Patrick Wright’s Raiders roared to a 3-0 showing, besting Grady (15-0) April 11, Grady (11-5) April 13 and Stone Mountain (11-0) April 15 by a cumulative margin of 37-5 in improving to 15-7 overall.
Martin Luther King Jr. also continued to surge at the close of the regular season, picking up strong triumphs over Carver (6-1) April 13 and Columbia (8-7) April 16 to move to 7-13 overall for the year.
Coach Marcus Benton’s Lions went 4-1 in their last five region games to secure fifth place in the final regular season Region 6AAAAA standings.
Coach Marco Jackson’s Stephenson Jaguars also nailed down the sixth and final berth in the Region 6AAAAA tournament with an 8-1 triumph over Banneker April 13 to improve to 12-9 overall.
Arabia Mountain picked up a crucial 7-6 victory over Chamblee April 15, as sophomore Jordan Sterling struck out seven and allowed three hits and two earned runs in going full seven innings on the mound. Junior Chris Sims (2-3; 1 RS), senior Kobe Atkins (2-3; 2 RBI; 1 RS; 1 2B) and sophomore Corey King (2-4; 2 RS) collected two hits each to pace the Ram offense.
Juniors Adam Dixon (2-4; 3 RS), Emari Hill (2-2; 2 RS; 2 RBI; 1 2B) and Van Markiton (2-2; 1 RS; 1 RBI; 1 2B) came up big on the offensive end for Chamblee in a 22-1 decision over Lithonia April 14. Junior Jack Bennett picked up the mound triumph for the Bulldogs, striking out two and allowing three hits over two innings.
Senior Jamari Johnson tossed a no-hitter in Columbia’s 35-0 victory over Cross Keys April 15, striking out six and walking three over three innings. Sophomore Elijah Hammonds (3-4; 6 RBI; 3 RS; 2 3B; 1 HR) and junior Brandon Williams (3-3; 6 RBI; 4 RS; 1 HR; 1 3B; 1 2B) shined brightest among many offensive stars for the Eagles in the contest.
Senior Malcom McGee posted six strikeouts and allowed only one hit over three innings in Lithonia’s 18-0 blanking of Cross Keys April 13. Seniors Chris Usher (3-4; 2 RBI; 3 SB), Jason Flowers (2-2; 3 RS; 2 RBI) and DaShawn Bailey (2-2; 3 RS; 3 RBI; 2 SB) and junior Alonzo Bell (2-2; 2 RBI; 1 RS) led the plate charge for the Bulldogs.
Sophomore Marcus Andrews struck out seven and allowed four hits and one earned run for Towers in a 13-3 triumph over Washington April 14.
