The Miller Grove Wolverines three-peated as the DCSD JV boys’ basketball champions with a 44-30 win over the Lithonia Bulldogs on Saturday at Cedar Grove Middle School.
The two teams were tied at 9-9 at the end of the first quarter before tournament MVP Maurice Harvey and teammate Lorenzo Anderson helped the Wolverines (13-0) begin to take control in the second quarter.
Lithonia (11-1) took a brief lead on a Tasim Sams basket to open the second quarter before Harvey drove in for a basket to tie it and start a 6-0 run for Miller Grove.
Anderson’s steal and basket with 4:24 left in the first half gave Miller Grove a 15-11 lead.
Harvey, who finished with a game-high 15 points and 9 rebounds, sent the Wolverines into the half with a19-13 lead with another drive to the basket with just over one minute left in the quarter.
Anderson opened the second half with a pair of driving layups as the lead opened to 23-16. Harvey made it a 29-18 lead with a pair of free throws with 1:09 to play in the third quarter.
Christian Parker’s offensive rebound and basket with 28 seconds to play in the third quarter kept Lithonia within single digits of the Wolverines with one quarter to play.
Harvey scored on layups with assists from Jaylen Mason and Kevin Paige took a pass from Harvey for a basket in a 6-0 run as the Wolverines begin to pull away up 36-22 with 4:31 to play.
Harvey put an exclamation point on his MVP performance with a dunk in the final 22 seconds to send the Wolverines into a celebration of their third consecutive title.
Anderson joined Harvey in double figures with 11 points for the Wolverines. Christian Parker had 12 points and 9 rebounds to lead Lithonia.

Redan 63, Stephenson 59 2OT
In another battle of unbeaten in JV action, the Redan Lady Raiders (12-0) rallied twice to force overtimes on the way to the exciting 63-59 victory over the Stephenson Lady Jaguars (11-1).
Redan would not quit until the final buzzer rallying twice in the final minute of regulation and the first overtime to scratch out the championship victory.
Detoria Weaver gave Stephenson a 50-46 lead with 1:50 to play and Kerrigan Johnson’s two free throws pulled Redan within 50-48 with just over a minute remaining.
Ayanna Jackson’s drive just before the buzzer to send the game into the first overtime tied at 50-50 concluded a drama filled final minute. Both teams missed scoring opportunities with turnovers as the two undefeated foes battled for the win.
Stephenson again jumped out to a four-point lead (54-50) to open the first overtime as Nikki Culbreath made a steal and converted it into a basket and Zuri Colbert put back her own miss.
Kennedi Harris’ rebound and basket with 1:42 to play made it a 56-53 Stephenson advantage and Redan was forced into rally mode once again.
Redan’s Keisha Ogletree tracked down a loose ball rebound with 17 seconds to play to score the tying points at 56-56 to send the game into a second overtime.
Redan would hold Stephenson scoreless for the final 1:42 of the first overtime and until the 19 second mark of the second overtime.
Johnson hit a pair of free throws to push Redan in front 61-56 with 42 seconds left in the overtime and Stephenson’s Nikki Culbreath responded with a three-pointer to close the gap to 61-59 with 14 seconds remaining.
Stephenson was unable to take advantage of a Redan turnover with 13 seconds remaining and Kyrah Singleton’s basket on an assist from Tournament MVP Ayanna Jackson sealed the 63-59 victory with 4 seconds to play.
Stephenson’s Nikki Culbreath had a game high 26 points to lead the Lady Jaguars while Laniya Campbell added 10. Detoria Weaver grabbed 14 rebounds and Zuri Colbert pulled down 12 more for Stephenson.
Ayanna Jackson and Kerrigan Johnson both finished with 19 points for Redan in the win.
