Seven games in the Region 6-4A Tournament involved DeKalb County teams on Tuesday and four teams came away with playoff clinching victories.

The two boys’ quarterfinal games at Lithonia was an all-DeKalb affair with the winners advancing to the semifinals and securing a berth in the Class 4A state playoffs.

The opening game of the night pitted perennial playoff entry Columbia against a Redan team which has improved under the guidance of Greg Wood in a contest that finished in a 63-53 overtime victory for Columbia.

With a playoff spot on the line the two teams went into overtime as Columbia completed a rally from three-points down with 1:40 to play on a layup by Serrod Little as regulation time ran out.

Longstreet opened the overtime with a three from the corner and with a basket and two free throws by Cobb for the Eagles and ran off seven consecutive points to take a 52-45 lead.

Tyonn Stuckey playing with four fouls found Darryl Moody underneath basket with 1:39 to play to pull Redan back within 52-51. Little made a big block and hit two free throws in the next 19 seconds to extend the lead to 54-51. Then Cobb would add a pair of dunks along with one by Boykin as the Eagles pulled away for the win.

The Raiders looking for their first playoff berth since the 2010 season took control of the first half as Tons McClaurin found back-to-back open looks from the corner and hit both three-pointers to give Redan (16-9) a 13-10 lead heading into the second quarter.

Stuckey’s three-pointer opened a 21-13 lead with 5:13 left in the first half before a Chae McLaurin drive and two free throws by Tremayne Anderson made it 25-15 with 3:40 left in the second quarter.

The Eagles (12-11) were down 28-17 with 1:44 to play in the first half when they put together a 5-point run which Lorenzo McGhee finished with the rebound of a missed free throw to close the gap to 28-22 heading into the half.

Redan opened the second half going up 30-22 on a Moody basket, but the Eagles came roaring back to tie the game 30-30 on the back of a pair of Justin Longstreet three-pointers and a free throw by Terrance Boykin.

Columbia took its first lead since 10-7 in the first quarter on a McGhee free throw, but another three by Tons McLaurin and baseline drive for a reverse layup by Moody made it 35-33 Redan heading into the fourth quarter.

The two teams went back-and-forth in the early part of the fourth quarter before Redan was able to take a 42-39 lead with a 5-0 spurt on baskets by Ashaki Powell and Moody and a free throw by Jabril Wyckoff with 1:40 to play.

The Eagles trying to run their playoff streak to 13 consecutive seasons would knot the game at 43-43 behind a pair of Boykin baskets with 39 seconds to play.

The Raiders regained the lead on as Chae McLaurin took a pass from Moody on the way to a basket with 12 seconds to play. Columbia’s Jalen Cobb moved the ball up the court quickly and found Serrod Little under the goal for the tying basket as time ran out to send the game into overtime.

Justin Longstreet had 18 points to lead Columbia in the victory, Cobb had 16 and Boykin 13. Chae McLaurin had 13 points and Darryl Moody 12 to lead Redan.

The Bulldogs built a 15 point lead (43-28) in the fourth quarter only to have the Rams put together an 8-0 run to pull within six (43-37) with 4:39 to play as Darius Giles’ pull up jumper closed the gap.

Lithonia’s Ty Freeman regained the momentum for the Bulldogs by hitting the bottom of the net with a three from the left corner that put Lithonia on an 11-0 run. The run was finished by a three-point play by Jacara Cross on a nice feed from Robert Hatchett he tipped into the basket and then a dunk on another pass from Hatchett as the lead expanded to 54-37.
