Eight McNair Mustangs placed third or better as the team won the 2016 DeKalb County Junior Varsity Wrestling Championship just before the holiday break in December.
Trevon Marrin (170) and Terry Grier (182) were both 3-0 in the tournament to lead the way for McNair’s point total of 167 to outlast the Decatur Bulldogs who finished second with 157 points. Southwest DeKalb was third with 96 and Stephenson fourth with 77.
Decatur had four wrestlers win gold and placed in three more weight classes to finish second overall. Fesol Noor (3-0, 126), Jack Brierley (3-0, 145), Dearies Wilson (3-0, 220) and Danas Johnson (3-0, 285) all collected gold medals in their weight classes.
Southwest DeKalb’s third place finish was paced by a win in the 106 weight class by Avery Brown who finished with a perfect 3-0 mark.
Lance Foucha (3-0, 113) and Willie Lowery (3-0, 138) captured gold for the Stephenson Jaguars’ run to a fourth place finish.
Other gold medal winners including Clarkston’s Tyjuan Bush (3-0, 120), Redan’s Torrence Dumas (3-0, 132), Druid Hills’ Ky-Lee Cade (4-0, 152), Lithonia’s Demetrius Simmons (3-0, 160) and Tucker’s Camron Carter (4-0, 195).
