DCSD Cancels Classes, School Activities, and Athletic Events on Thursday and Friday Due to Hurricane Helene

In response to the projected severe weather conditions caused by Hurricane Helene, Superintendent Dr. Devon Q. Horton has announced that all schools within the DeKalb County School District (DCSD) will be closed on Thursday, September 26, and Friday, September 27. This closure includes all school-based, district-wide, extracurricular, and athletic events.

12-month employees will work remotely on Thursday and Friday. More information will follow from their supervisor.

Dr. Horton explained that the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and families remain the District’s top priority. He made his decision to close schools after carefully considering weather forecasts that predicted dangerous conditions such as high winds, power outages, downed trees, and hazardous roads.

“Given the severity of the weather conditions expected from Hurricane Helene, closing schools and canceling all activities is the most responsible course of action to protect our community,” Dr. Horton said. “We thank everyone for their understanding and cooperation during this time of uncertainty,”
DCSD urges families to stay informed through local news outlets and monitor the district’s website and social media for further updates.
