(STONE MOUNTAIN, GA)—The DeKalb County School District (DCSD) is pleased to announce the launch of its website with details of its Student Assignment Project (SAP) and the opening of the advisory committee application window for community partners to participate in developing SAP recommendations for buildings, boundaries, and programs. The application window to serve on an SAP Advisory Committee is now open through September 6.
School districts should review boundary lines every five years and complete the student assignment process every ten years, as this is considered best practice. In addition, DCSD’s process will align with the ESPLOST funding cycle to ensure that all stakeholders’ voices are included in funding prioritization.
“We are fully committed to an inclusive, equitable, and comprehensive Student Assignment process that addresses the needs of all our students,” said Superintendent Dr. Devon Q. Horton. “This 18-month process will reimagine our District in ways that better ensure a high-quality education for everyone.”
For DCSD, four advisory committees, based on geographic regions, will develop recommendations using District data and community feedback. These committees are listed in alphabetical order by region:
- Central: Druid Hills, Clarkston, Tucker, Stone Mountain
- North: Dunwoody, Chamblee, Cross Keys, Lakeside
- Southeast: Lithonia, MLK, Miller Grove, Redan, Stephenson
- Southwest: Cedar Grove, Columbia, McNair, Towers, Southwest DeKalb
Through this process, the District plans to thoroughly review its programs, boundaries, and buildings to improve student services. Advisory committees will propose recommendations for review by the superintendent and the Board of Education. Before the Board votes on the recommendations, preliminary proposals will be presented to affected communities for feedback.
DCSD encourages all residents to learn more about the Student Assignment Project process and consider applying to serve on an advisory committee. For more information, please visit DCSD’s SAP webpage HERE. To apply to serve on an SAP Advisory Committee, see HERE.
