Barack H. Obama Elementary Magnet School of Technology
Congratulations to Barack H. Obama Magnet School for being named the recipient of school supplies courtesy of The dReam Center Church of Atlanta. Representatives from the church arrived at the school on August 8 to give away backpacks filled with supplies for students in need.

Briarlake Elementary
Congratulations to the Briarlake Elementary Jr. Beta Club, who placed well at the most recent National Jr. Beta Club Competition in Oklahoma during Summer 2019. Briarlake placed fourth in Robotics; sixth in Book Battle; ninth in Quiz Bowl, and second in Reimagine, Recreate, Recycle.

The Champion Middle Theme School
In celebration of the new school year, Champion Theme School hosted a Million Fathers March breakfast. The event welcomed local fathers, grandfathers, uncles, big brothers and male guardians to a meal on August 5, 2019.

Chapel Hill Elementary
Congratulations to Chapel Hill Elementary for being named the recipient of school supplies courtesy of Pastor Lee May. Pastor May arrived at Chapel Hill Elementary with backpacks loaded with supplies, which will go to students in need.

DeKalb Early College Academy (DECA)
Congratulations to DECA for being named the #1 Niche Standout School in the metro Atlanta area. The 2019 Niche Standout High Schools list recognizes public schools making a difference in their community, based on key statistics, reviews, and data provided by the United States Department of Education. Edward L. Bouie Elementary Theme School
E.L. Bouie greeted students attending Open House 2019 with a carnival-style welcome. Attendees were treated to face painting, popcorn, free backpacks, and tours of the school building.

Huntley Hills Elementary
Congratulations to the Huntley Hills Parent Teacher Association (PTA)! The PTA was recognized by the National PTA for its partnership with local families, including its ability to enrich the educational experience and overall well-being of students. The school was named a 2019-2021 National PTA School of Excellence following the installation of a new water bottle filler in the gymnasium, sensory hallway installations, and enhancements to the school courtyard. Huntley Hills will continue these efforts during the 2019-2020 school year with indoor recess bins and enhancements to the school playground.

Kittredge Magnet
Kittredge Magnet School solidified plans to speak with astronauts on the International Space Station via an amateur radio sometime during the 2019-2020 school year as part of the school’s focus on STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and the Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) Program.

Marbut Elementary Traditional Theme School
Marbut Traditional Theme School upgraded a portion of its hallway this summer with colorful murals. The hallway — completed by art teacher Carolita Benton — is designed to excite students about artistry and art-focused education.

McLendon Elementary
Congratulations to McLendon Elementary for being named the recipient of a $10,000 grant from State Farm. As a recipient, McLendon partnered with State Farm to host a Back to School Bash during open house on July 31, which included a DJ, cotton cady, popcorn, and snow cones. Every attending student also had the opportunity to obtain a backpack with school supplies.

Miller Grove Middle
Congratulations to Miller Grove Middle for being named a recipient of school supplies courtesy of the CBS46 Surprise Squad, Marshall’s, and United Community Bank.

Rock Chapel Elementary
Congratulations to the Rock Chapel Parent Teacher Association (PTA)! Rockbridge Elementary
Rockbridge Elementary welcomed DeKalb County Board of Education member Diijon Dacosta on August 5, 2019, as a celebration of the first day of school.

Sequoyah Middle
Congratulations to Sequoyah Middle for being named the recipient of a 21st CCLC grant for afterschool programs. Over the next two years, Sequoyah will receive $100,000 in grant funds to assist with enrichment activities for students, as well as opportunities for parent engagement.
