Hundreds of District Seniors Participate in College Signing Ceremonies
College-bound seniors at Clarkston, McNair, and Stephenson joined peers throughout the nation in celebration of college admission.
In auditoriums filled with family, friends, community leaders – and, in some cases, even a video message from former First Lady Michelle Obama – seniors laughed, smiled, and signed their names on the canvas of the future.
“There’s nothing more important than getting your education,” noted Obama in her May 5th National College Signing Day address. “We are celebrating because each and every one of you is taking the next step in your education.”
Amidst encouraging words from guest speakers, student achievement recognitions, musical performances, and even prize distributions from local businesses, DeKalb County School District seniors basked in the glory of the moment.
“We are proud of these young men and women for taking an important step in their educational pathway,” Superintendent R. Stephen Green said after the ceremonies. “These students have worked hard and demonstrated great dedication and commitment. We want them to savor this moment and know that this is only the beginning.”
