Tapestry Public Charter School Earns Praise in Accreditation Recommendation

Tapestry Public Charter School has received a strong recommendation for accreditation following a nearly year-long rigorous review process from AdvancED (now Cognia), a worldwide education review organization.

The endorsement, similar to one received by the DeKalb County School District (DCSD) in March, is a major strategic goal for Tapestry. As importantly, it aligns with the high expectations set in the school’s charter school petition.

Tapestry significantly outperformed the national average in the following seven learning environments: equitable learning, high expectation, supportive learning, active learning, progress monitoring and feedback, well-managed learning, and digital learning.

In addition, AdvancED praised Tapestry for a powerful practice –an accolade that is not often given – pertaining to the school’s partnership with the Woodruff Arts Center, especially the Alliance Theatre and the High Museum of Art, which the reviewers noted was “truly outstanding.”

In fall 2016, Principal Barbara Boone submitted an application for accreditation consideration and launched an internal review of Tapestry. The internal review process involved analyzing performance data and completing a self-assessment. Once data and assessments were submitted to AdvancED, an external review team visited the school to complete classroom observations, conduct stakeholder interviews, and examine evidence presented from the internal review.
